University sector negotiates on a new collective agreement on salary and working conditions

The negotiations on a new collective agreement on salaries and working conditions in universities have been launched.

Akava's collective bargaining mandate is held by Negotiation Organisation for Public Sector Professionals JUKO. In the university sector negotiations, employees are represented by the JUKO, Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors (JHL) and Federation of Salaried Employees (Pardia). JUKO represents more than 18,000 employees in the university sector.

The Association of Finnish Independent Education Employers (AFIEE) represents the Universities.

The first discussions revolved around the employers’ and employees’ targets concerning salaries and the text of the agreement in general terms. The parties have also discussed the financial situation of universities, general economic trends, latest forecasts and negotiations of other sectors.
The currently valid collective agreement for universities will expire on 31 January 2018. The parties have agreed on a schedule for future negotiations. The discussions will continue throughout December and January.
