The Association of Finnish Independent Education Employers (AFIEE), (which represent the Universities) and the JUKO, Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors (JHL) and Federation of Salaried Employees (Pardia) which represent the employees, continued their collective bargaining February 7.
In the meeting Wednesday the abruptly cut off discussions about changes in the texts as a whole, continued. There is still a significant disagreement about the texts. Basically the parties do not yet agree on anything.
The Employer also gave their first proposal regarding the salary raises. The salary raises proposed by the Employer were only a fraction of the raises given on the general level in this year's collective bargaining. JUKO and the other employee representatives informed the Employer that no collective agreement can be reached with these salary raises.
The Employer was quite aware giving their proposal that it could possibly not be acceptable to the Employees. The Employer proposed an unacceptable salary raise on purpose. This salary proposal is very descriptive of the whole collective bargaining this round and shows the Employer's belittling attitude towards the university staff.
The next possibility to continue the collective bargaining is coming Monday, February 12. The minimum requirement for the bargaining to continue, is that the Employer gives a reasonable salary raise proposal.
The collective agreement for the universities ended January 31. There are no legal obstacles for industrial action/strike at this point. JUKO is prepared to help the collective bargaining, if necessary, by the means of industrial action/strike.
