The salary system of the universities changes


The board of the Finnish Union of University Professors has accepted the negotiation solution concerning the salary system of the universities.

The salary system will become more flexible regarding the individual pay component from the beginning of 2019. The categories of the individual performance classification will decrease from the current nine to four categories, and the lowest performance percentage of the current system rises to six percent. The cost effect caused by the raising of the lowest performance percentage will be met by a similar change on the job-specific pay components. In practice, this means that professors’ salaries will be raised by 0.36 %. The performance classes (’performance categories’ in future) have been defined by upper and lower limits between which the individual pay component can slide. The rest of the local instalment coming to force in January 1, 2019 will be used to raise job grades and permanent job demand extras.  

On June 1, 2019, 0.85 percent of the salary amount will be used on the individual pay component in a manner defined by the employer.  The Union will further instruct its members about this. 

Those outside the salary system will receive a pay raise of 0.5 percent on January 1, 2019 and 0.85 percent on June 1, 2019. 

The solution includes changes in the performance evaluation procedure also.
