The 24-hour strike by JUKO, Pro and JHL at the University of Helsinki and Turku will begin at 00.01 on 27 May and end at 23.59 if no solution is found before then.
The conciliation of the university labor dispute concerning 35,000 university employees is set to continue under the leadership of the National Conciliator on Monday, 19 May. Despite intensive mediation efforts, no settlement proposal has yet been reached.
Key issues in the negotiations include salary increases and a cap on teaching hours, which aims to protect teaching and research staff from excessive workloads.
Finland’s thirteen universities, along with their teaching, research, and supporting administrative staff, form the educational foundation of society.
“The future of Finland is built on knowledge, and that knowledge is created by university employees. Therefore, fair, general-increase-focused salary raises and working conditions that support well-being are not just matters of negotiation – they are a necessity,” emphasize the organizations representing university employees.
The collective agreement negotiations for universities have now been ongoing for over three months.
