The Union’s Strategy

Advocacy for science and professors

The Union Council approved the Strategy of the Finnish Union of University Professors for 2026–2030 in its meeting on November 28, 2025.

Strategic focal areas:

For its members, the Finnish Union of University Professors shall

• Safeguard employment relationships
• Improve working conditions
• Develop the sense of community
• Strengthen the freedom to carry out scientific and artistic work

In favour of science, art and education

The Union Council approved a strategy for the Union up to 2026 in its meeting on November 26, 2021. According to the strategy, the Union has two strategic focal points:

1. in favour of the freedom of research and teaching, and of education, and
2. in favour of good work.

The Finnish Union of University Professors promotes Science, the Arts and Education, defends academic freedom and the autonomy of the university community, improves the prerequisites for professors’ operative conditions, and supports professors’ positive professional image. The Union’s values are research-based knowledge, education, member orientation as well as reliability, openness and daring.
