Professional liability and legal expenses insurance

The Finnish Union of University Professors has taken professional liability and legal expenses insurance from insurance company Turva for members who are employed by a third party. The insurance covers issues related to the employment or service relationship of the insured.

The insurance amounts for compensation are 100 000 euro for personal injury and property damage and 25 000 euro for legal expenses. The deductible for legal expenses insurance is 15 % of the amount of damage, but a minimum of 150 euro for each incidence of loss. The deductible for liability insurance is 100 euro for each incidence of loss.

In order to access the insurance coverage, you must contact the Union office.

Update to the Member Insurance Terms and Conditions

The terms and conditions of the legal expenses insurance provided by the Finnish Union of University Professors for its members have changed with effect from 1 September 2026. Going forward, criminal cases related to work will also be covered by the insurance.

Special clause: Contrary to clause E17 of the terms and conditions, the insurance also covers criminal cases related to employment and public service relationships when they do not pertain to an intentional act, gross negligence or gross recklessness by the insured person. If the insured person is an injured party in a criminal case and brings a private law claim for damages against the defendant for damage caused by a criminal offence, any necessary and reasonable attorney’s fees and legal expenses incurred from bringing the claim in question will be reimbursed.
